Troop Interviews
This week marks the seventieth official edition of “Troop Interviews”, where a team of interviewers (currently Brenatto, Yvng, Mars, Cracked, and Guinz) ask two or more people questions. Interviews won’t have same questions; each interview’s purpose is to show originality and have its own unique highlights. Along with that, the questions asked give us a better understanding of each soldier and how different or similar everyone is in the community. There’s an exponential amount of soldiers here in the Rebel Penguin Federation, so it will be difficult to get to everyone who requests an interview. The Rebel Broadcast Team graciously appreciates the patience you all have and hope to see you guys in a post one day!
The three interviewees for this week are Woogs, Avril, and Crow!
Woogs
Hey hey! It’s Yvng, and I’ll be your host today for this week’s edition of Troop Interviews. To start this off, we have Mars interviewing a recent retiree, Woogs! Let’s not waste any more time and jump right into it.
How are you doing today?
Woogs: im doing okay marmar thanks for asking, very tired per usual but what else is new
Mars: that’s a huge mood i feel you, ive been doing pretty well! my day was pretty laid back because its summer now 🙂
What do you plan to do now that you’re no longer staff?
Woogs: well, I had to retire because i had a lot of other outside obligations that were ramping up so naturally my time has been going towards those things like my new work life & with things opening back up, spending time with some friends i haven’t been able to see in a while!
Mars: aww yay thats good to hear! hanging out with friends is always great <3
How have you seen RPF change since you first joined?
Woogs: biggie question! I mean I’m inclined to say ive seen it change in lots of good and different ways – when i joined, it was the HEIGHT of the pandemic and RPF had a ginormous spike in members and just last summer as a whole was absolutely insane to see, and then right as summer ended i slowly transitioned to staff duties and so in that sense started paying more attention to what really goes behind the scenes & while staff has changed immensely since I joined, its been so amazing to see where everyone has ended up now. but in terms of the heart of RPF and what we’ve all accomplished big word bubble
Mars: LOL lotta words but yeah i for sure agree that the pandemic gave RPF such a big spike and we hit super amazing numbers :”)
and yeah I remember getting staff around the same time as you (doot buddies ) so its been rly cool to see different people come and go as well as how things have changed overtime!
What has been your favorite memory so far in RPF?
Woogs: oh god i have too many okay let’s see,,,,,,
1. Having Pika vs. Kermit battle for the first time last summer (shoutout to brento) 2. Being able to participate in summer Olympics with Team Phoenix HOOF HOOF and just for a third one, 3. Recruiting sessions during Music Jam/The Fair parties last summer LMAO.
iykyk
Mars: LOLLL yes those are deff some of my favorite moments as well
summer Olympics was so unmatched (i still think phoenix should’ve won!) HOOF HOOF
What’s one of your proudest accomplishments as a staff member?
Woogs: being able to mentor cadets :”) mentoring is really something special that Gens get to do & being able to guide the quote on quote next generation of moderators/staff is super rewarding for that role. I’m definitely excited to see where all the newer mods and cadets go to next <3
Mars: for sure :”) woogsy best mentor i can’t wait to mentor some cadets in the future myself it seems super cute <3
What is your favorite animal?
Woogs: does Pikachu count,,
I’m kidding ok but my favorite ACTUAL animal in real life is a giraffe
Were you expecting to be promoted to Third in Command?
Avril: I didn’t know when exactly I’d get promoted tbh; I was gen for such a long time! But I knew that if I kept working hard and improving, I’d get there eventually.
Cracked: I feel that! Sometimes promos can feel slow, but you’ve been a great troop and officer, so I knew you’d eventually get to hcom, and now I expect you to be a good hcom too, ofc!
Is there a big difference between Officer and HCOM?
Avril: None at all For sure! I think I’ve adapted fairly well. There were a lot of things I already knew about just from watching what HCOM did in different chats, but there were definitely some new things I had to learn. I’m still figuring things out! There’s definitely a big difference between Officer and HCOM! Planning events, doing the event pings, leading all the time, answering suggestions, making sure things are okay for troops and staff, etc. A lot more leadership involved. It’s been fun though!
Cracked: Interesting! I can imagine it must be quite different with all the leading and planning that goes on behind the scenes It’s great that you are adapting to all the new duties tho!
What advice do you give to anyone trying to reach HCOM?
Avril: Believe in yourself and work hard! Get out of your comfort zone, help out, and speak up. Whatever stage you decide to start working towards HCOM, ask for advice. I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without my spectacular mentors Tad and Milly (love you guys so much; can’t thank you enough for everything). It might take some time, self reflection, and change, but if you want to go for HCOM, you should because it’s worth it! Lots of fun times ahead.
Cracked: That’s some interesting advice, Avril! It definitely isn’t easy, but as long as you are having fun, anything’s possible, right! Working closely with your mentor is also important for sure. As you said, it’s worth it. Definitely want to make a note of this
What do you hope to achieve next in RPF?
Avril: I hope to continue making the environment better for troops and staff. The community is already very lovely and kind, but there are still things that can be improved! But I’m also hoping to help improve creativity in events. I’ve had a lot of fun coming up with tactics, stuff for PPC weeks, Tux Times challenges, etc. before I became HCOM, so I’m excited to help in a larger way for helping plan stuff like costume events and even the Olympics!
Cracked: That’s a really nice mindset! You’ve always been super helpful and contributive in PPC and Tux Times, coming in clutch with the weekly challenges, those had my braincells going more than once, I’m ngl. Really creative stuff, and I can’t wait to see what you and the other hcom have planned for Olympics
If you had to choose only one favorite role from RPF, which one would it be?
Avril: I think my favorite role might be Firework. It was the role you’d get for the Summer 2020 seasonal roles if you got 55 recruits. It was one of my first big achievements here, and I was super proud to get it. I just loved the color and the name of it too. Fruit Ninja could be a close second.
Cracked: Oooh, interesting choices! Those are super cute, recruiting roles in general are just so pretty, definitely worth going for! Also can’t wait for Olympics, they are just THAT iconic
Any final words?
Avril: Have a good day everyone and spread love and kindness
