Vet Spotlight: Lime

Have you ever seen someone with a purple name in chat and wondered who they are? Every RPF Veteran has a story, and this is the fourteenth edition of the Vet Spotlight column, where we take you back in time to tell the story of our esteemed veterans! Today, we’re telling you the story of our veteran, Lime.

Lime (formerly known as hintoflimee)🍋‍🟩first stepped foot into the RPF discord server on the 10th of August 2019, being recruited by then General F6 on Club Penguin Rewritten. He spotted them exiting the mines and quickly sparked up a conversation, where he then told them about the RPF discord server.

Feeling super isolated at the time, with her going through a move, the idea of a joining a big group chat with loads of people interested in the same game as them sounded super comforting. Lime ended up attending her first event, a knight themed costume event just four days after joining the server, earning her first promotion to Private.

Her first impressions of the server were very mixed, initially feeling quite intimidated, due to not fully understanding how discord worked at the time. The server reminded her of IRC chats/roleplay servers she used to join when she was younger, so seeing chat moving quickly wasn’t a foreign concept to them, though she questioned whether it would be worth sticking around seeing that everyone already knew each other.

What helped Lime break out of her shell were the friendships she had made with fellow troops, NotManuGinobili & Crazzy. Manu made an effort to try and include her in chat where possible, even making them a custom profile picture at one point, whereas Crazzy was Lime’s first friend in the RPF, remaining as one of her closest friends from the server to this very day.

As a troop, Lime enjoyed the routine & structure events provided to them, having a lot of free time on her hands, events gave her a sense of stability and gave her reason to keep returning to the RPF. Being a bit of completionist when it comes to games, she often looked forward to promotions, trying to up her chances of being promoted where possible, akin to maximizing ones stats in a game.

Though it quickly became much more than that, RPF became a way for her to socialize and build relationships with people who had similar hobbies or were in similar situations to them. Lime shares that she’s grateful for her first year in the RPF, not knowing how she would’ve coped if it weren’t for the friends she had in RPF at the time.

Setting her sights on just reaching moderator, Lime never particularly wanted to be HCOM, the idea intimidated her. The RPF staff environment at the time was far different than it is today, the goals and expectations as a staff member were stricter & things were taken more serious, she recalls the constant recruiting feeling like a job at times. So by the time she had reached moderator, she knew she wouldn’t want to grow into HCOM, at least not in that moment.

The era in which Lime became a staff member lacked an Officer Cadet rank, making the shift between Colonel and Officer quite strong. As a colonel, she tried her best to market herself as a potential staff member, being helpful to newer troops where she could, regularly attending events, and even getting a few recruits here & there. When Lime eventually became a staff member, she often found herself learning how to go about her staff duties alongside her other friends in the staff team.

Being mentored by Cosmo, her time in the staff time was not without its conflicts, with her becoming a staff member amidst a series of security breaches. She recalls having to make several RPF emails, with the staff team at the time having to chat through Snapchat & Skype due to not knowing who’s discord accounts were compromised, the whole process becoming quite exhausting. Thankfully, due to advancements in the RPF’s security, nothing similar has happened since.

The entire ordeal eventually led to Lime stepping down. She explains why she felt it was the right decision: “I joined RPF to have fun and play games, at the end of the day. but this whole situation with DDan, as well the 2019 mod purge happening a couple weeks before I joined, I knew it was just going to be too much for me and it stopped being fun. I also was starting school again at the time so I needed to keep my priorities in the right spot.”

However, her time away from the RPF ranks did not last long, re-enlisting just a few weeks later during the COVID Pandemic, jokingly accepting the Private First Class rank. Lime began slowly climbing up the ranks once more, regularly attending events & being active in #main-chat, but by the time she had gotten to Colonel again, she was too burnt out to re-apply for staff.

Though still wanting to contribute to the RPF, she joined the Social Media Team, working on RPF’s Youtube, later working on RPF’s Twitter alongside Crazzy. Lime formally retired as a troop on the 21st of January 2021, receiving RPF Veteran for her contributions to the community, both as a troop and as a staff member.
