ART COLUMN – 04/14/21

Welcome to the twenty-eighth edition of the Art Column, where our reporters (currently YipYorp, Sharki, Yvng, and Cracked) see and critique pieces in the #art channel and choose which to feature from members of the Rebel Penguin Federation.

By definition, “art” can be best described as…

“…the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.”

Due to this, the Art Column’s purpose is to promote all types of art. This includes whether it’s digital or physical, something you can hear or something you can see, and even if it’s RPF related or not. However, please do also keep in mind due to so many members in our group, not everyone will get recognized each week. Nonetheless, we hope you enjoy our weekly gallery and keep creating!

Featured Artist

“nautical meddlesome animal” by nma, RPF Corporal

This week’s Featured Artist is nma! They used Procreate on their iPad to make this drawing.

“On a road trip in 2018, we stopped at a hole-in-the-wall sculpture park, where there were several of fish stylized like this. I fell in love with their innocent and curious eyes, and imagined how they would interact with other fish. When I made my discord account, I chose one of the images I took that day. I really liked the vibe it had, but it was a little small and needed some sprucing up—so I went to learning to draw fish, and after a few attempts, out comes this sketch!
Tl;dr: Inspired by a sculpture in the middle of nowhere, born out of cleaning up my pfp”

Club Penguin & RPF Art

Being the Rebel Penguin Federation, we have to include art related to us in this post of course! Here are some Club Penguin & RPF-related art made by our fellow troops!

“GameBoy Puffle” by Game Quest, RPF Private First Class

“Well, I was thinking of what I would call myself after the AIW theme, and decided on GameBoi (which i didnt stay with bc, eh) and also wanted to make a pfp for it. I hopped on to pixilart, and made a GameBoy-style puffle, which I used as a pfp for about 2 days before I made my current one (called rock). I got my inspiration from Pedro, whose art is wonderful, and made it quickly, to give it a sort of charm that comes with a drawing that looks like this. I was told that it resembled something aliens would draw on a field, which made me laugh. Perhaps I should call it Puffle Shrubbery, hmmm.”

“Officers and Cadets” by Coric, RPF Brigadier General

“I figured it’s been a hot minute since the last portrait, so with a request from someone and a want to update it, 12 hours later and I am honestly proud of it.”

“Dojo Song” by z3ming, RPF General

“i remade the dojo theme song but in minecraft with noteblocks”

Comic

A very talented rebel has volunteered to make an original comic featuring RPF staff in funny situations inspired by daily conversations in main chat! Enjoy this week’s comic edition brought to us by Coric, Brigadier General!

“Mistakes are Made”

“Lanie finds herself in a sticky situation and calls for help. Z3 and Woogs just happen to walk by and take pics of the hilarious predicament.”

Theme of the Week

In this segment, we will be announcing a different topic every week to challenge our artists and see what they come up with. If you would like to participate, post your art in #art with the hashtag we include here for a chance to be featured!
This week’s Theme of the Week was Ancient Civilizations!

“Tower of Progress” by Jos, RPF Corporal

”A traveler of the future finds an ancient clocktower. Inspired by Tower of Heaven and March of Progress”

“Moonlight” by Missy, RPF Major General

”I tried to make this picrew resemble Artemis who is a Greek Goddess of many things, including the moon. I thought it fit well with Ancient Greece and it was super fun to make!”

Thank you to everyone who submitted art!

Next week’s Theme of the Week will be… music! How do you feel when you listen to music? Do you like to create your own music? This week, share your music, a cover, album art, or any kind of art that represents music and how it affects you! Make sure to put #rpfacmusic in the caption when you post your work if you would like to be featured here next week! Don’t forget: art includes drawings, music, photography, paintings, and more!

All art presented was given permission by their creators to be included in this post. Never steal or take credit for another person’s work!

Thanks for reading!
