Blast from the Past: Retro Rebels Review

July arrived, and with it came a new PPC project! With huge events like Legends Cup XI and the first HTML5 Olympics on the horizon, Retro Rebels served as an appetizer for what’s to come, but that didn’t make it any less exciting. Let’s go back in time through a weekend all about time travel – a rewind-ception, if you will!

Time Troubles

Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, things just don’t work out. F6 can relate, except his situation involved an enigmatic figure puncturing the fabric of time and leaving RPF in a Schroedinger-esque situation of not-quite existing, not-quite gone. We’ve all been there, right? In some ways, the weekend was a bite-sized Halloweek in that it featured an extensive mystery – and yet, it had its own unique flavor.

With only a weekend’s worth of events, the Retro Rebels itinerary was stacked. Friday had us travel back to the past and scour a series of igloos for items hidden amongst the prehistoric chaos. There was also the reveal of the first cluea sailor’s hat left behind by the hooded figure!

Saturday’s events were themed around the present, and what better way to do that than through song and dance? During the AUSIA and EU/US events alike, we celebrated everyone’s different tastes in music through creative tactics. Meanwhile, the plot pushed the desperate rebels further into the past, where they were split between the Mesozoic Era and the Ice Age. The curious culprit dropped another clue: a playing card…?

A much-hyped gala arrived on Sunday to wrap things up! After doing some tactics, we chilled in Cracked (shoutout to him)’s igloo while admiring everyone’s talents (check out the top 3 below)! Partway through, we also found the final clue: red lipstick fell from the villain’s hands after Elex and co. confronted them in a dystopian future.

There were some incredible performances at the talent show, and the judges were hard-pressed to select just three to award! Here are the best of the best.

And finally, there was the grand reveal of the culprit’s identity! It turned out that an evil F6 from an alternate timeline was trying to sabotage the Rebel Penguin Federation. Who would’ve guessed? For a recap and a fantastic explanation of the clues (which even I genuinely needed), check out this post.

Behind the Scenes

The Party Planning Committee always puts their best effort into organizing events like these (and no, this is not the Obama medal meme), so I wanted to find out what went into Retro Rebels! To mix things up, I interviewed Alienn, a fresh member of PPC and a mastermind behind this weekend’s story.

Q: What was your favorite part of the week?
My favourite part was creating the mystery and seeing everyone else try to guess from the clues! It really helped to tie all our events together and lead up to the grand reveal 😀

Q: What do you think people in general enjoyed the most?
The summer gala! It was the perfect way to end off a perfect weekend and it’s always exciting to hear/see everyone’s talents 🙂

Q: Anything you’re looking forward to doing as part of PPC?
As a troop I always looked forward to PPC’s events so getting to be a part of the team is so amazing now! I know summer olympics is coming insert soon emote so I’m definitely looking forward to planning that! (If you’re reading this get HYPED!)

Excited to see what Alienn and the rest of the Party Planning Committee will cook up next! Thanks, Alienn!

Conclusion

I’d say this weekend was another smashing success from the Party Planning Committee! Its creative time-travel plot taught us that without caution, we may live long enough to become the villain :emo:. Though this project was the last from PPC HCOM Amoji, Milly, and Panini (to whom RBT sends its regards! Thank you for your service), I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the team.

And don’t worry – no graphs for you this time!
