TROOP INTERVIEWS – Amoji, Mac, Watts, Eskild

Troop Interviews

This week marks the sixty-first official edition of “Troop Interviews”, where a team of interviewers (currently Cosmo, Brenatto, Yvng, Mars, and Sharki) ask two or more people questions. Interviews won’t have same questions; each interview’s purpose is to show originality and have its own unique highlights. Along with that, the questions asked give us a better understanding of each soldier and how different or similar everyone is in the community. There’s an exponential amount of soldiers here in the Rebel Penguin Federation, so it will be difficult to get to everyone who requests an interview. The Rebel Broadcast Team graciously appreciates the patience you all have and hopes to see you guys in a post one day!

The four interviewees this week are Amoji, Mac, Watts Up, and Eskild!

Amoji & Mac

What’s up, rebels – it’s your friendly neighborhood Brento Box, hosting another edition of Troop Interviews! First things first, we have a joint interview with the two latest entries to the HCOM team, Amoji and Mac! Let’s see what they had to say to our interviewer, Sharki.

As we all know, nothing is more prestigious than… having the color of pee?

How does it feel to be HCOM?

Sharki first asks Amoji and Mac how their 3iC experience has been so far! They both state that it’s been pretty fun, what with their newfound abilities to help out around the federation. But of course, nobody in HCOM would ever abuse their power, especially on our green-colored Officers (srs))).

Did you think that you would ever be HCOM?

Next, Sharki asks whether our latest HCOM anticipated their promotion! Mac admits that he didn’t even expect to remain in RPF for so long until he found himself rocking it at General. Amoji, on the other hand, explains that it’s been a goal of his for a while, and he cites his hard work and dedication as reasons for how he got there. Both of them agree that it was an eventuality, though! Knowing your worth ✨

What advice would you give to troops aspiring to be HCOM?

Then, Amoji and Mac gave some excellent advice to us for becoming HCOM! Mac says that being true to yourself is the most important aspect. That combined with a willingness to help and improve will pave the way to HCOM (and maybe even beyond?!) Meanwhile, Amoji says that the key is rolling with the punches; put your enjoyment of RPF before any rank-specific aspirations.

Better take notes, readers at home (and don’t let Amoji sabotage you :O)

What’s the most important part of being HCOM?

Time for the penultimate question! Sharki asks what each of our interviewees think is the most important HCOM responsibility. Besides oppressing our mods (not (srs))), I swear!), Mac answers that it’s making sure the federation stays healthy and continues to run smoothly. Amoji responds that it’s supporting members of RPF – staff and troops alike. Creating that fun community is what HCOM’s here for, and I’m interested to see how they contribute to that going forward!

What’s your favorite RPF memory?

Sharki poses one last question for this interview! She asks Amoji and Mac to look back on their RPF experience and recount the best moments in RPF. Amoji wastes no time in citing Summer Olympics 2020 and his team, Phoenix. Many rebels look back on that fondly; there’s little more exciting or competitive than that week of team spirit (cough Team Terra rocks cough). Olympics week is always incredibly memorable – even if it comes second to Amoji’s signature bullying 😤. Mac returns a whole slew of RPF moments, including our Legends Cup X battles, invasions with the Black Ice Alliance, his chance to lead Team Cerberus at the Winter Olympics closing ceremony, and, last but not least, those elevator music listening parties. All excellent choices, as well (especially the last); it’s hard to choose just one!

Any last words?

As the interview closes, Mac calls out Stu himself, unibrow and all, for an unban on CPR! Amoji gives a shoutout to the rest of his trio, Panini and Milly, as well as a callback to the classic “Hey There, Khalilah” music video. Well-said o7

Lots of thanks all around!

Watts Up

Next up, we have Watts Up! I’m sure you, dear readers, have seen her around in chat quite a bit, being one of our newest Officer Cadets! This particular interview, conducted by Yvng, focuses on her status as a former Troop of the Week. Let’s check it out!

Watts, don’t give into the bear emotes!

How did it feel to become Troop of the Week?

Yvng’s first question was how Watts felt, being the 173rd Troop of the Week! She gave a short and sweet response: it was a very cool experience. 😎 Being able to rock the title and the pink name is an unmatched feeling.

Why do you think you earned Troop of the Week?

Yvng hits Watts with another question – how did she get TOTW in the first place? Watts admits that it was completely unexpected, which is valid; I think we ALL don’t expect to get TOTW until those congratulatory pings start flying in. However, she goes on to say that her kindness to others in chat factored into her selection as Troop of the Week. I can definitely agree with that :cpgoo:

What advice would you give to other troops who aspire to be Troop of the Week?

Next, Watts gives us advice as to how to get Troop of the Week! She says being genuinely yourself is the best road to achieving that title – and that there’s no need to be insanely active. IRL > RPF, as the saying goes! Even though she claims she’s not the best at giving advice, what Watts said is pretty wise!

How did you come up with your username?

Yvng moves us to a less TOTW-centric topic – the origin of the name, “Watts Up!” Watts explains that it’s actually a quote from Sharkboy and Lavagirl‘s Mr. Electric, where he makes that exact pun. A nice, direct answer; I could never imagine Watts having an alternate name currently… aha… anyway…

What goals/ranks do you hope to achieve in RPF?

For our final question, Yvng asks Watts about her aspirations in RPF! She says that her aim is just to contribute as much to the rebellion as she can, whether she makes it through the Officer ranks or if she just helps out as a Cadet. Either way, I think it’s a respectable goal, and I can’t wait to see how far she goes!

Any last words?

Wrapping up the interview, Watts thanks Yvng for the experience and tells our readers to stay hydrated and safe. I second that (or third, since Yvng also agreed): before we hop into our final interview for this edition, make sure you grab a glass of water! 🥤

Eskild

Last but definitely not least, we have a conversation with Eskild, our 176th Troop of the Week! There’s plenty to get to know about this then-RPF Major, so let’s jump into this interview with our interviewer, Royal!

How does it feel to be Troop of the Week?

To kick off this interview, Royal asked Eskild how he felt being a Troop of the Week! Eskild explains that it’s a lovely experience, especially with the fact that he’s the first of 2021; yet, it was also surprising that he’d been even considered to get it in the first place. Definitely well-deserved though – he’s an excellent person to have in the federation!

Was it ever your goal to get TOTW?

Royal then asks whether Eskild ever aimed to achieve the prestigious title of TOTW! His answer is that it hasn’t really been at the forefront of his thoughts, though it has crossed his mind on occasion. Rather, he just wants to enjoy himself and his time here in the federation. Like Royal said, that’s the important part – there’s no point in grinding if you’re not having fun!

Do you have any goals/ranks you’d like to achieve in RPF?

In a similar vein, Royal asks Eskild what he looks forward to achieving in RPF. Eskild explains that he’s aiming to reach the staff ranks, either as a Cadet or a fully-fledged Officer, so that he can contribute more to the federation. I think that’s a lovely aspiration, and I can’t wait to see the day he does reach those sweet green ranks!

Who recruited you and how? What made you decide to stay?

Royal hits Eskild with a pretty packed question: why did he join RPF in the first place, and why did he stay? First, Eskild says that he spotted a Reddit comment by Avril – shoutout to her! – advertising the server. He found that the community was super nice, and he decided to stick around. Without that sequence of events, we wouldn’t be here interviewing Eskild! Glad that all of that happened, then!

What are some random fun facts about you?

For Royal’s last question to Eskild, she asks him to give some fun facts about himself. He lists off quite a few cool things: he’s played guitar since he was 10; he loves going to rock concerts; he does judo, a martial art; and he once swam with sharks! Man, it sounds like Eskild’s had a really interesting life – I’m kind of jealous (except for the sharks part: that sounds absolutely terrifying).

Any last words?

For the final words of the interview, Eskild leaves off his interview with a hearty “Fight the good fight!” Indeed, dear readers, and don’t forget it! :RPFSalute:

And that’s a wrap! We’ve gotten to know quite a few interesting rebels over the course of this edition of Troop Interviews. Thanks to you, the reader, for sticking around; I hope you enjoyed. Until next time!
