Vet Spotlight: F6Sixer

Have you ever seen someone with a purple name in chat and wondered who they are? Every RPF Veteran has a story, and this is the twentieth  edition of the Vet Spotlight column, where we take you back in time to tell the story of our esteemed veterans! Today, we’re telling you the story of our Advisor, F6sixer

To Be or not to be a Nacho?

F6sixer’s introduction to the army is an interesting one when he stumbled upon a “Nachos” event in Club Penguin Rewritten, which was a room full of penguins dressed up in Sombreros and Ponchos doing tactics.
Turns out it was not the Nachos, but Rebel Penguin Federation being led by Sasuke aka Silverburg.
He later caught up with Sasuke again to tell him how awesome the event was, and on March 28, 2019 was redirected to the Discord server.

Troop Days

Much like his first introduction to RPF his Troop Days was also fun, interesting, and a bit hectic.
He was a bit shy in the first few days of joining, and so he quietly watched and lurked while people chanted EU! EU! GR! GR! Which he later learned it meant “Get Ready”.

Favorite Troop Memory?

Getting Troop of the Week, he was working towards it but didn’t expect to get it that week, so it was a nice surprise!

Rank Goals

As he continued to hang out more in RPF and meeting everyone he wanted to one day join his friends in Staff ranks.
“I wanted to be hcom/mod someday cause I thought they were really cool people.”-F6.

Troop of the Week

On May 24th, 2019 two months after joining Rebel Penguin, at the rank of Captain F6sixer got the adorable pink role, Troop Of The Week!
Congratulations TOTW #92!

Officer/Mod Days

By the time of June 2nd, 2019 F6 flew through the ranks when he reached Officer this was due partly because of a double promotion from then Lieutenant Colonel to Brigadier General.

His mentor during this time was Head General (equivalent to Third in Command) Pookie437.

During his time as Officer it was an overall positive experience for him though at times it was hectic too, but part of that comes from him wanting to be an overachiever in those days. He made lots of friends and alot of them went on to becoming his HCOM buddies as well.
He was also on the Contests and Club Penguin News Teams.

What it means to be an Officer

To F6 being an Officer is the backbone of Rebel Penguin; from Welcoming, making and posting guides, Event Posts, Moderating, and more! They do alot of heavy-lifting and though it can feel like a thankless job at times. He truly appreciates the work and effort past and present Officers put into the server.

Inspirations to become Staff

I think my fellow Mods and HCOM like Ulti and Cheese. All of them used to work insanely hard and I wanted to do my part. We used to work together to get recruits on CPR. Back then recruiting, especially in groups, was super fun and people would join by the ton. It was a friendly competition of sorts but at the end of the day our singular goal was to make the server grow quickly. I had a lot of free time back too since I’d completed my masters and was yet to start my job.

HCOM Era

In September 15th, 2019 all of F6sixer’s hard work finally paid off and he made it to HCOM! Some of his favorite memories during this time are getting to do some amazing things including being in charge of Contests Team, implementing alot of the sheets we use now, crushing the CPA Top Ten, and most of all
creating the original version of Rebel Bot i.e Rebel Banker in 2020.

Rebel Bot/Charlotte aka Rebel Banker

When F6 started writing Banker’s code, he had no knowledge of JavaScript(JS). his coding background was systems related, so for the original bot it was okay for a few commands but it was super messy to add new codes and was not scalable (i.e. it couldn’t handle multiple servers).

However, in a few weeks he got the hang of it and decided to do a clean rewrite to address all of the flaws in the original implementation.
The new code was based on his own custom framework which made adding, editing, and removing commands easier. It’s also highly scalable (limited by hardware rather than the code). Then after he became Rebel Commander in 2021, the original Rebel Bot died unexpectedly- Rest in Peace.

It was the primary bot used to handle basic necessities such as Welcoming and Moderation. Since there was no clarity on when the bot would be back (turns out it never did), he decided to implement all of those features into Banker.
A few months down the road, Rebel Federation Admins officially turned Banker into Rebel Bot. Ever since, it’s only continued to grow in size. It has over thirty-five thousand lines of code (not counting external dependencies) and has over 100 commands.
Most of the commands are not public since they control the bot’s configuration in the server. It also has a whole host of features that make it indispensable to the entire RF network. This is the longest F6 has single-handedly maintained a software.

Becoming Rebel Federation and Growth

Although F6 was never really active in the Main Hub, the primary reason being there was a bit of a tug of war between some of the Rebel Federation admins and RPF HCOM about who’d control what in the early part of Rebel Federation forming.

RF admins were automatically Advisors in RPF and were sometimes out of touch with what an army needs, so it’d get weird in meeting at times.
Some channels like Pets were transferred out of RPF and people were upset about it. Then there was also a disagreement with the Good Fight podcast, but with all that being said Rebel Federation had a really nice growth spurt during the lockdown.

Commando would stream Minecraft and they were on the Twitch platform. Rebel Federation also overhauled the site and allowed the creation of new divisions. So a lot more servers existed including ones for games like AmongUs and at one point Wizard101. Over the years, successive RCs have worked with RF administration and now we get along very well.

Retirement

On August 8th, 2022 after being enlisted for a total of 40 months, Rebel Commander F6Sixer sadly retired here’s his Retirement Post

Advisor

Although F6 originally planned to be around only for a short while to allow a smooth transition as he wasn’t around for about a month, and his real life work was really picking up. He told the Rebel Commanders they could remove the role if they like, which they have not done so. These days you’ll mostly see F6 lurking as his not on Discord often, but when he is around his always lending his assistance.

HCOM and RCs don’t need advice for the most part unless they request for it or you see something obvious that they’re not seeing (which rarely happens). So I don’t have a lot of work haha. As I say, all I do is sit still and look pretty, but I’m always here if RPF needs me ~F6

Thank you for your time in Rebel Penguin and being part of making the community a positive place!

What’s F6sixer up to since retiring?

Touching grass! His an engineer by profession and right now, his pretty much busy with work that he truly enjoys. So all in all a good time, he loves RPF very much but he does NOT miss leading it LOL!

Fun Questions:

Did you have a favorite Troop rank during your Troop era?
F6: Not really I was looking forward to the next one.

Favorite CPA Tournament/Battle?
F6: The LCXI Finals against Help Force was what I consider to be the best event of my career.
After a terrible March Madness in 21 results overturn by the admins of CPAHQ, I really wanted to win a CPA Tournament, partly because Rebel Penguin was denied a rightful win during March Madness, but also due to some annoyances with former admins.
I led the last 15 minutes and as soon as Rebel Penguin entered the last room- Iceberg. I knew RPF had won. The Rebels had 20 or 25 more than they did in the Iceberg and looked absolutely massive- completely drowning them out
Post is hereWhere did your name come from?
F6: I have no idea honestly lol. It was my penguin name back in 2007 that’s the only thing I remember.

Do you have a fun fact or something interesting about yourself you’d like me to include in the Post?
F6: Fun Fact: If you DM Rebel Bot or edit an existing DM with Rebel Bot, she forwards it to me.

 What’s your favorite color?
F6: #cc0000 aka RC Red

Did you pick it out for the Rebel Commander role?
F6: Oh no, I didn’t. That’s probably a Twitchy thing. It’s been that color ever since I joined.

Thank you to the amazing F6Sixer for participating in this interview, telling me more about yourself and teaching me more about Rebel Bot’s history it was really fun <3!

Thank you to everyone for reading!
