2020 TOURNAMENTS – IN REVIEW

2020 was an enormous year for the army scene. From CPAM to CPAH, the Club Penguin army scene in general had its best year yet. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and worldwide restrictions forced people inside and on their computers, Club Penguin Rewritten served as an escape from reality, a bit of nostalgia to remind us of the good old days. As a result, many armies (the Rebel Penguin Federation in particular) saw massive increases in membership. With more army members came bigger tournaments, and the Rebel Penguin Federation was a dominant force in 2020, winning four separate tournaments.

CPAM Premier League

The CPAM Premier League began on March 30th, 2020. In this Round Robin-style tournament, every army would face each other at least once, and the two armies with the best records would face each other in the finals. The Rebel Penguin Federation defeated Os Mascarados Army on March 30th in a secret battle and beat the Romans on April 3rd in another. The remaining 3 battles were made public in a post by then-Rebel Commander Ultipenguinj on April 4th. On April 9th, the Rebel Penguin Federation took on the Help Force, and won 2-0-1. The Rebel Penguin Federation would take on the Army of Club Penguin on April 11th, winning once again. The undefeated Rebels and the Army of Club Penguin would battle on April 18th for the championship. The Rebel Penguin Federation would win again and take home the CPAM Premier League trophy. Shortly after the battle, two new RPF Rebels, F6sixer and Starship, were inducted into the RPF Hall of Fame.

Legends Cup X

After winning the Premier League, the Rebel Penguin Federation went into World War Rewritten against ACP. After victory in World War Rewritten, CPA and RPF Legend Ultipenguinj retired from leadership, leaving Cosmo as the sole leader before arguably the biggest tournament in army history. The Rebel Penguin Federation entered the tournament on a hot streak, taking the #1 seed. Thus, the Rebels faced a mystery opponent in Round 1, revealed to be the Eastern Hancock Underground Mafias Army. The Rebels brought 91 penguins to their Round 1 battle, winning 3-0. Between Round 1 and Round 2, RPF and CPA Legend Crazzyhead was promoted to Rebel Commander! The Rebels would go on to face the Golden Troops in Round 2. The Golden Troops put up a good fight, but the Rebels’ 93 penguins proved to be too much. The Rebel Penguin Federation would then take on the Elites (our now-allies) in Round 3. With 91 penguins online, the Rebel Penguin Federation would take another 3-0 win, en route to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, the Rebel Penguin Federation would take on the Ice Warriors, another army of similar size to the Rebel Penguin Federation. The semifinal battle was enormous, with the Rebels bringing 162 penguins and breaking the RPF Uniform record. The Ice Warriors took the first room, the second room was voided (VOID???) due to technical difficulties, and the Rebel Penguin Federation took the third room. The battle was tied up and went to overtime. Both armies kept their foot on the gas. The first overtime room was declared a tie, and the battle went to a second overtime. Finally, the judges awarded the fifth room to the Rebel Penguin Federation – giving the Rebels 2-1-1 win and a road to the Legends Cup X finals. The Rebels would take on the Help Force in the finals. With 155 penguins online, the Rebel Penguin Federation took a 3-0 victory in the final battle and won the Legends Cup X.

Fright or Fight

Coming off of a dominant summer in which the Rebel Penguin Federation joined the Black Ice Alliance and beat the Doritos of Club Penguin in an intense war, the RPF entered the Fright or Fight tournament in a dominant position. The Rebels entered the tournament as the #1 seed, facing a mystery army in Round One. Hours before the battle began, the mystery army was revealed to be All Four CPAH Admins Wearing Funny Hats (AFCPAHAWFH for short.) The Rebel Penguin Federation brought 79 penguins to their Round One battle and beat the AFCPAHAWFH 1-0 (forfeit). After a dominant Round One performance, the Rebels went on to face the Help Force. The Help Force would prove to be a difficult, but not insurmountable, opponent. After a close battle, the Rebel Penguin Federation would prevail victorious and go to the first Fright or Fight finals.

In the finals, they would meet the Army of Club Penguin, who maxed more penguins than the Rebels in their semi-finals matchup against the Ice Warriors. After a week of constant hyping, recruiting, and training from both sides, the Rebel Penguin Federation and Army of Club Penguin would do battle on November 1st. The battle would prove to be an intense fight, with quick tactics and blistering form changes from both sides. With 128 penguins on at their largest, the Rebel Penguin Federation would take home a 3-0 win in the inaugural Fright or Fight tournament. Shortly after the decisive battle, RPF Legend Silverburg would award Rebel Commanders Cosmo and Crazzy RPF Icon for their efforts in winning the tournament.

Christmas Chaos X

Continuing their dominance, the Rebel Penguin Federation entered the historic Christmas Chaos X tournament as the #1 seed again, facing the Fighter Pilots in Round One. The Fighter Pilots put up a good fight of their own, with fast tactics and speedy forms, but the Rebels’ size advantage was far too overwhelming for the Pilots. The Silver Empire, an S/M powerhouse that is now allied with the Rebel Penguin Federation, brought their best effort to the quarterfinals. Once again, the Rebels’ size advantage was simply too much to overcome.

The Rebels would go on to face the Help Force in the semifinals of the Christmas Chaos X tournament – a common theme throughout 2020. Bringing 128 penguins and breaking their Christmas Chaos X size record, the Rebels would be off to the finals where they would face the Ice Warriors in their final Flash-era tournament battle ever. After a week of intense training, recruiting, and hyping from both sides, the Rebel Penguin Federation and the Ice Warriors would battle on December 19th, 2020 for the title of Christmas Chaos X Champions. Room 1 of the final battle was a tie, while rooms 2 and 3 would go to the Rebel Penguin Federation. The Rebels would 1-up their record of 128 from the semifinals battle, with 129 penguins online in the finals.

Room 2 of the Christmas Chaos X Finals

The Rebel Penguin Federation was a force to be reckoned with in 2020, being able to bring 90+ troops to a tournament battle with ease. The Rebels brought 110+ troops to 8 battles, with two coming in the Legends Cup X tournament, two coming in the Fright or Fight tournament, two coming from the Christmas Chaos X tournament, and another two were from the CPAM Premier League. Can the Rebels replicate their success in 2021?
