Welcome to the second edition of the People Column of Rebel News Media, where interviews with RF members are published weekly.
This week’s interview is with Advisor Omega39!
RNM: Hello Omega39! We’ll get this started off with a question about you. What is your new years resolution for 2019?
Omega39: No sweets or chocolate. I managed to not drink any soda for 2018. Mostly just coffee, tea, and water.
RNM: I see, interesting. Impressive that you cut out soda, that’s been the one thing I’ve had trouble with.
Omega39: Here’s the trick I did. When I gave up soda, I switched to sparkling water as a way to ease off to the point where I didn’t need to nor desire to.
RNM: Interesting! Finding a healthier substitute for your cravings is always a smart move to make. I’d like to ask another question, this one about the army. What is your view on the current state of the army?
Omega39: Well, to me it sounds like a huge improvement. Extending and expanding into other games. Discord is a huge upgrade to Xat. It’s almost like a live blog. A much better medium for cultivating a culture and community. For half my career with RPF, I didn’t necessarily like CP, but I liked the community that resided in it concerning armies and nations.
RNM: Interesting, interesting. It’s nice to hear from someone as important in the history of the RPF as you that the future of the RF is looking good so far. Feeding into my last question, what is your favourite thing about the current RF in your ongoing, though brief visit?
Omega39: Meeting new people and interacting with old friends. It’s nostalgic. Discord has definitely enhanced it, and I’m certain, for others as well. It’s seamless.
RNM: Glad to hear. It’s always nice reconnecting with old friends, especially on a platform such as Discord, which is fairly easy to use.
Omega39: Absolutely.
RNM: Looking back to the history page, there is a sentence on how you are well known for getting in debates with troops. Do you remember any of these debates, and which one was your favourite?
Omega39: I mostly debated with others in different armies, mostly in arguing for wins and justifying them. I’d post them on RPF’s old website and in comment sections. I knew my way around the law of the time and how it operated.
RNM: Being good with words and reason is an important part of being in a position of authority, and it comes with its benefits. Are there any stories from your time as owner that you would like to share?
Omega39: The key to being good with words are to use them sparingly and know when to use them. Ironically, I never actually led RPF as a Rebel Commander. I probably did for a week, but stepped down after a couple days (didn’t think it was right for me). I’ve always been more of a behind the scenes kind of guy. The cloak and dagger sort. A phrase I often said was, “the mind beats the blade.” That was how I operated in my career. I could not amass a large army. I could not utilize battle-sized strategies and tactics. I stuck to my strengths and let others shine where I could not.
RNM: It’s important to know your strengths so you can utilize yourself for the best. Clearly, my strength isn’t in RPF history! I’ve got one last question for you, and it’s about the present. What do you see in the future of the RF?
Omega39: I know there are a lot of changes concerning expansion. That’s good news. I can envision RF as potentially a strong candidate, if we play our cards right, to be a large to be a large influential gaming community. It takes a strong leadership, a dedicated following, and to be patient with time, but it is possible. It’s taken us 11 years to get where we are today and we are still alive and thriving and growing.
RNM: That’s great to hear and inspires a good deal of positivity. I’m glad to hear that you see potential in the direction that the RF is taking. That’s all the questions I have. Thank you Omega39 for being a great guest!
Omega39: No problem, Brownboy. Thank you for the invitation! I hope others will benefit from our conversation.
RNM: Have a great night!
That’s all for the interview of Omega39! Special thanks to Brownboy102 for interviewing him.
