Vet Spotlight: Cosmo

Have you ever seen someone with a purple name in chat and wondered who they are? Every RPF Veteran has a story, and this is the sixth edition of the Vet Spotlight column, where we take you back in time to tell the story of our esteemed veterans! Today, we’re telling you the story of a fun and well-known RPF Legend who often pops up in chat and is a friendly penguin to us all: Cosmo.

Cosmo, who has achieved the status of RPF Legend, was twice our very own Rebel Commander.

Unlike some of us who were invited into RPF, Cosmo was not invited. He remembers hearing about Club Penguin Rewritten on social media after the original Club Penguin shut down and was interested to check it out. His first few days were very fun!

His first meeting with RPF was when Operation: Blackout was happening. (Cosmo says it was hands down the best-ever party to come). He ran into penguins wearing RPF’s uniform in Town and the first words he said in the room were: “Are they bots?“. Funnily enough, someone told him that they are bots as they were chanting “WE ARE RPF” or something at the time, and he said “Rude Penguin Force?”

It seemed so funny at the time and a few days later while looking for a mascot tracker online, he came across their website and was like “RPF? Where have I heard of that before?” and from there on he joined the original discord server (which is now known as RF Hub) and he still remembers his first message in #help-desk was asking if he had to wear the “roof” uniform (autocorrect happened).

Some of his favourite memories would be Winning Legends Cup X, Christmas Chaos X, winning every official tournament held in 2020, AUSIA hitting max 102+, hitting 162+ and 155+ in Legends Cup X semi-finals and finals respectively, getting RPF Legend, my Olympic team (Cerberus) winning, and being Slytherin in Harry Potter week.

When Cosmo first joined, he barely knew how RPF operated. However, he was aware of a staff rank that manages the servers (at the time HCOM was referred to as owners) and he just wanted to rank up as fast as he could to staff. Finding out he was nearly banned multiple times when he reached HCOM eventually, he did get better after a whopping thirteen active weeks at Colonel, which he wanted to retire at initially.

Finally, on the 10th of February 2019, Cosmo was promoted to Rebel Commander for the first time.

As Rebel Commander in 2019, Cosmo was simply squished between his two other colleagues who were Rebel Commanders with him. They constantly had arguments and at times he felt like he was a child with two parents on the brink of a divorce, considering how he was only 15 at that time and his fellow RCs were adults. Nevertheless, Cosmo achieved the role of RPF Hero towards the end of his serving time.

Not long later, Cosmo retired after 3 months of being RC…

…and then joining back at 4IC at the end of 2019. Soon enough, he was promoted in April 2020 back to Rebel Commander for the second time in less than a year.

The second time Cosmo achieved RC, he told himself that he wouldn’t let it be like how it was last time. Getting the chance to solo lead RPF for a month was a fun period for him, as he could make decisions this time around.

Thankfully, not long after, he promoted Crazzy to be his co-leader and it was honestly one of the best decisions he had made up to date for RPF. Under Crazzy and Cosmo’s leadership, RPF won many battles and tournaments, notably, we were Legends Cup X winners, and Christmas Chaos X winners. RPF won all battles held that year and was #1 on Top Ten for the longest time.

Aside from absolute success in battles and tourneys, as simply HCOM, it was very fun defeating Air Force every other week (Cosmo was undefeated all 2020 in branch battles), being a co-founder of BIA, the server hitting 9k members (perhaps even more), getting RPF Icon, winning Fright or Fight CPAH tournament, WINNING WINTER OLYMPICS AS TEAM CERBERUS and of course, getting RPF Legend as the 109th Rebel Commander.

Although Cosmo has retired and now sits back with the RPF Legend rank, he once was RPF Advisor until retiring in early 2022. Nevertheless, he still contributes by personally advising rebel commanders every once in a while. He also contributed a little with the “advisor” group chat (though they do not have any actual name for it), but for a while, advisors decided on HoF inclusions and even handled the history page. Just being in chat has also been a constant for Cosmo.

Throughout his time in RPF, Cosmo has had many different memories, but the best of the moments is probably having made such good friends that he can return to. RPF used to feel like a home to Cosmo at one time, and it holds a special place with him despite anything you may see him say. He is thankful he found RPF, it’s a part of his life he probably wouldn’t want to relive but Cosmo is still glad it happened.

Thank you Cosmo for all you’ve done for RPF and all of us here, and for letting me tell your story! Lastly, Cosmo would like to say something to everyone:

Keep an eye out for more editions of Vet Spotlight in the future and thanks for reading!
